Frederick I, Elector Palatine

1425–1476 · 15th century · Also known as Frederick the Victorious

Frederick I, Elector Palatine, called the Victorious, governed the Palatinate from 1451 as guardian of his nephew and then as elector in his own right. He defeated a coalition of neighbouring princes at Seckenheim in 1462. His morganatic marriage to Clara Tott produced the counts of Löwenstein, ancestors of the Löwenstein-Wertheim line.
