Anna II, Abbess of Quedlinburg

1504–1574 · 16th century · Also known as Anna of Stolberg

Anna II of Stolberg was princess-abbess of Quedlinburg from 1516, when she was elected as a girl, until her death in 1574. In 1539 she introduced the Lutheran Reformation in the abbey and town, turning Quedlinburg into a Protestant foundation for noblewomen while keeping its imperial status. She also founded schools and reorganised church life in her small territory.
