Quedlinburg
Quedlinburg is a town on the northern edge of the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. A favoured residence of the Ottonian kings, it was the burial place of Henry the Fowler, whose widow Matilda founded an abbey of noble canonesses there in 936; its abbesses ruled the town as princesses of the Empire until 1803. Its collegiate church, castle hill and hundreds of timber-framed houses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
