Frederick IV, Prince of Salm-Kyrburg

1789–1859 · 19th century

Frederick IV was the last reigning Prince of Salm-Kyrburg, a small German princely house of the Holy Roman Empire. He succeeded as a child in 1794, after his father Frederick III was guillotined in Paris during the Terror, and in 1802 his house received lands in Westphalia as compensation for territory lost to France. The joint Principality of Salm was annexed by Napoleonic France in 1810–1811.
