Fredericton
Fredericton is the capital of the Canadian province of New Brunswick, on the Saint John River. Founded by Loyalists in 1785 near the former Acadian settlement of Sainte-Anne's Point, it was chosen as capital by Governor Thomas Carleton because it was safer from attack than the port of Saint John. It is home to the University of New Brunswick, founded in 1785.
