Generality Lands
The Generality Lands were territories of the Dutch Republic governed directly by the States General rather than forming provinces of their own. Conquered mainly from the Spanish Netherlands during the Eighty Years' War, they included States Brabant, States Flanders and parts of Limburg and Upper Guelders. Their largely Catholic inhabitants had no vote in the States General, and the lands correspond broadly to North Brabant and Dutch Limburg.
