Upper Guelders

Upper Guelders was the southern quarter of the Duchy of Guelders, around Roermond, Venlo and Geldern on the Meuse and the lower Rhine. Unlike the northern quarters, it stayed with Spain during the Dutch Revolt. After the War of the Spanish Succession it was divided between Prussia, Austria and the Dutch Republic, and its lands now lie in Dutch Limburg and North Rhine-Westphalia.
