Georgios Kondylis

1878–1936 · 20th century

Georgios Kondylis was a Greek army officer and politician, at first a supporter of Eleftherios Venizelos. He took part in several coups and briefly led a government in 1926. Turning to the royalists, in October 1935 he overthrew the government, declared the monarchy restored and organised a plebiscite with a doubtful near-unanimous result that brought back King George II. He died in 1936.
