Gerbod the Fleming

fl. 1070s · 11th century

Gerbod the Fleming was a Flemish nobleman who received the earldom of Chester from William the Conqueror around 1070, after the suppression of English resistance in the north and west. He soon returned to Flanders, where he was captured in the fighting of 1071, and the earldom was given instead to Hugh d'Avranches.
