Ghilman
Ghilman (singular ghulam) were slave soldiers, usually of Turkic origin, purchased and trained to serve Islamic rulers. They became the core of the armies of the Abbasid Caliphate from the ninth century and were also used by the Fatimid Caliphate, but their growing power often allowed military commanders to dominate the caliphs.
