Ghurak
Ghurak was the ikhshid, or king, of Samarkand in the early 8th century. He came to power around 710, shortly before the Umayyad general Qutayba ibn Muslim took the city in 712, and then ruled as a tributary of the caliphate. He kept up relations with Tang China and the Turgesh, shifting sides between the Arabs and the Turks to preserve his rule.
