1st century CE · 1st century · Also known as canonical gospels

The Gospels are the four accounts of the life, teaching, death and resurrection of Jesus in the New Testament, attributed to Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Written in Greek in the later 1st century CE, they are the main sources for Jesus' ministry in Galilee, Judaea and neighbouring lands such as the Decapolis, and they also mention rulers of the time such as the Herodian tetrarchs.
