Granma (yacht)

1956 · 20th century

The Granma is the yacht that carried Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and 80 other revolutionaries from Tuxpan, Mexico, to eastern Cuba in late 1956. They landed on 2 December in difficult conditions and were scattered by government troops, and the survivors regrouped in the Sierra Maestra. The boat is displayed in Havana, and the Cuban Communist Party newspaper and a province are named after it.
