Greben Cossacks

The Greben Cossacks were a community of Cossacks who settled in the foothills and along the middle Terek River in the North Caucasus from the 16th century. Many were Old Believers, and they lived in close contact with Chechens and Kumyks, adopting elements of their dress and customs. In the 18th century they were brought under Russian state control and later absorbed into the Terek Cossack Host.
