Ingush people
The Ingush are a Nakh people of the central North Caucasus, closely related to the Chechens, living mainly in the Republic of Ingushetia in Russia. Organised in clans in mountain villages with stone towers, they adopted Islam largely in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1944 Stalin deported them with the Chechens to Central Asia, and their return in 1957 left a territorial dispute with North Ossetia.
