Kabardians
The Kabardians are the eastern branch of the Circassians, living chiefly in Kabardino-Balkaria in the North Caucasus. From the 15th century their princes ruled the plains of Kabarda along the Terek and its tributaries and held sway over neighbouring mountain peoples. Allied with Muscovy from the 1550s, they were absorbed into the Russian Empire in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
