Guan Hanqing was a Chinese playwright of the Yuan dynasty, regarded as the foremost writer of zaju drama. Working in Dadu, he is credited with some sixty plays, of which about eighteen survive, including The Injustice to Dou E, a tragedy of a wronged young widow. His vivid vernacular dialogue and sympathy for ordinary people made him a central figure of Chinese theatre.
