Gubbio

Also known as Iguvium

Gubbio, the ancient Iguvium, is a town in north-eastern Umbria, Italy, on the slopes of Monte Ingino. It was an important Umbrian community and then a Roman municipium, and the Iguvine Tablets found there in 1444 preserve its ancient religious rituals. In the Middle Ages it was a free commune before passing to the dukes of Urbino, and its medieval palaces and Roman theatre survive.
