Person
Guy I de la Roche
Guy I de la Roche was ruler of Athens and Thebes from 1225 to 1263, succeeding his uncle Otho de la Roche. He rebelled against William of Villehardouin, Prince of Achaea, and was defeated at Mount Karydi in 1258, but was pardoned after appearing before Louis IX of France, who allowed him to style himself Duke of Athens. His long reign was a time of prosperity for the Frankish duchy.
