Guy I, Count of Ponthieu

d. 1100 · 11th century · Also known as Guy I of Ponthieu

Guy I was Count of Ponthieu, on the Channel coast of northern France, from 1053 until his death in 1100. In 1064 he seized Harold Godwinson after his shipwreck and handed him over to Duke William of Normandy, an episode shown on the Bayeux Tapestry. He had earlier been captured by the Normans at the Battle of Mortemer in 1054 and afterwards became William's vassal.
