Hajar Mountains
The Hajar Mountains are the highest range of eastern Arabia, running some 700 km through northern Oman and the eastern United Arab Emirates, with Jebel Shams, about 3,000 metres high, as their highest peak. Their ophiolite rocks contain copper that was mined from the 3rd millennium BCE, when the region was known to Mesopotamia as Magan. Their valleys hold oases watered by falaj channels.
