Haqnazar Khan

r. 1538–1580 · 16th century

Haqnazar Khan was khan of the Kazakhs from 1538 to 1580 and a son of Qasim Khan. Coming to power after a period of defeats and internal strife, he restored Kazakh power over the steppe, fought the Moghuls and Oirats in the east and pushed west into former Nogai pastures as the Nogai Horde weakened. His long reign made the khanate again the dominant power between the Volga and the Syr Darya.
