Nogais

Also known as Nogai people

The Nogais are a Turkic people of the North Caucasus and the steppes north of the Caspian and Black Seas, traditionally named after Nogai, a 13th-century commander of the Golden Horde. From the 15th century they formed the Nogai Horde, a nomadic confederation between the Volga and the Ural, and later groups lived under the Crimean Khanate. Most now live in Dagestan, Stavropol Krai and Karachay-Cherkessia in Russia; they are Sunni Muslims.
