Heraclitus

c. 535–c. 475 BCE · 5th century BCE · Also known as Heraclitus of Ephesus

Heraclitus was a Greek philosopher of Ephesus who lived around 500 BCE. His book of sayings, known only from fragments, taught that the world is in constant change, summed up in the later phrase that everything flows, and that it is governed by an underlying order, the logos, with fire as its basic element and opposites in tension. He influenced Plato, the Stoics and later philosophy.
