Hermogenes (architect)

late 3rd–2nd century BCE · 2nd century BCE

Hermogenes was a Greek architect of the Hellenistic period, probably from Priene or Alabanda, admired by Vitruvius as an innovator in the Ionic order. His works included the temple of Dionysus at Teos and the temple of Artemis Leukophryene at Magnesia on the Maeander, which used his pseudodipteral plan. He wrote treatises on his buildings, now lost.
