Hibernia

Also known as Ivernia

Hibernia is the classical Latin name for Ireland, related to Greek forms such as Ierne and Ptolemy's Iouernia, which derive from the same Celtic root as the Irish name Ériu. The Romans never conquered Ireland, though they traded with it, and the name was used in Latin texts through the Middle Ages.
