Hisham II

966–c. 1013 · 10th century · Also known as Hisham II al-Muayyad

Hisham II was the third Umayyad Caliph of Córdoba, succeeding as a child in 976. Real power lay with the hajib Almanzor and his sons, while Hisham was kept secluded. He was deposed in 1009, restored in 1010 and disappeared when Berber troops took Córdoba in 1013. Impostors claiming to be him later lent legitimacy to the Abbadids of Seville.
