Hisham III of Córdoba
Hisham III (c. 975–1036) was the last Umayyad caliph of Córdoba, proclaimed in 1026 and installed in the city only in 1029 after years of civil war. His government, run by an unpopular vizier, could not restore order, and in 1031 the notables of Córdoba deposed him and abolished the caliphate. He died in exile in Lleida in 1036, leaving al-Andalus divided among the taifa kingdoms.
