Al-Mutamid ibn Abbad

1040–1095 · 11th century · Also known as al-Mu'tamid ibn Abbad

Al-Mutamid ibn Abbad (1040–1095) was the last Abbadid king of the Taifa of Seville, ruling from 1069 to 1091, and one of the finest poets of al-Andalus. He annexed Córdoba and Murcia, with the poet Ibn Ammar as vizier, but paid tribute to Alfonso VI of Castile. After Toledo fell in 1085 he called in the Almoravids, who deposed him in 1091 and exiled him to Aghmat in Morocco, where he died.
