Mutambuka

mid-19th century · 19th century

Mutambuka was Omugabe, or king, of Nkore in the mid-nineteenth century, one of the rulers under whom the kingdom became an expanding power. He raided neighbouring Buhweju, Igara and the successor chiefdoms of Mpororo for cattle and drew them into tributary relations. His death was followed by a war of succession among his sons, from which Ntare V emerged as king.
