Jahwarid dynasty

1031–1070 · 11th century · Also known as Jahwarids, Banu Jahwar

The Jahwarids (Banu Jahwar) were a family of Córdoban notables who governed the city as a council-led republic after the abolition of the Caliphate of Córdoba in 1031. The founder, Abu al-Hazm ibn Jahwar, and his successors ruled as administrators rather than kings and kept Córdoba largely at peace. Their rule ended in 1070, when al-Mutamid of Seville annexed the city.
