Hong Gyeong-nae's Rebellion
Hong Gyeong-nae's Rebellion was an uprising in Pyeongan province in north-western Korea from December 1811 to the spring of 1812. Led by Hong Gyeong-nae, an educated man barred from office, it drew on resentment of the region's exclusion from government posts, on merchants and miners, and on famine. The rebels took several towns, but were besieged in the fortress of Jeongju, which fell when government troops blew up its walls.
