Horatii and Curiatii
The Horatii and Curiatii were two sets of triplet brothers who, according to Livy, fought a duel to decide the war between Rome and Alba Longa under King Tullus Hostilius in the mid-7th century BCE. Two Roman Horatii fell, but the survivor killed all three Albans, and Alba submitted to Rome. The story became a model of civic virtue, painted by Jacques-Louis David in 1784.
