Ascanius
Ascanius, also called Iulus, is the son of Aeneas in Roman legend. Tradition held that he left Lavinium and founded Alba Longa about thirty years later, ruling as its first king. The Julian family, to which Julius Caesar and Augustus belonged, claimed descent from him through the name Iulus, a claim celebrated in Virgil's Aeneid.
