Hormizd IV

d. 590 · 6th century · Also known as Hormozd IV

Hormizd IV was king of the Sasanian Empire from 579 to 590. Son of Khosrow I, he waged wars against Byzantium and the Turks, and around 580 he abolished the monarchy of Iberia, governing it through a Persian official. His conflict with the nobility and with his general Bahram Chobin led to his deposition and murder in 590, after which his son Khosrow II took the throne.
