House of Hanover

1692–1866 · 17th century

The House of Hanover was a German princely dynasty, electors and later kings of Hanover, that ruled Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 to 1901. The English Act of Settlement of 1701 fixed the succession on Sophia of Hanover, a Protestant granddaughter of James I, and her son became George I in 1714. The personal union with Hanover ended at Victoria's accession in 1837.
