House of Haro

The House of Haro was a Castilian noble family that ruled the Lordship of Biscay from the 11th to the 14th century. Descended from Íñigo López Ezquerra and named after the town of Haro in La Rioja, its members, many called López de Haro, were among the most powerful magnates of Castile; Diego López V founded Bilbao in 1300. The lordship passed to the crown in 1379.
