House of Oldenburg

The House of Oldenburg is a European royal dynasty descended from the medieval counts of Oldenburg in north-western Germany. In 1448 Count Christian of Oldenburg was elected King of Denmark as Christian I, and his descendants ruled Denmark, Norway and, for periods, Sweden, Schleswig-Holstein and Oldenburg itself. Its branches include the Holstein-Gottorp line, which gave rulers to Russia and Sweden, and the Glücksburg line, which still reigns in Denmark and Norway.
