House of Vasa
The House of Vasa was a Swedish royal dynasty founded by Gustav I, who became King of Sweden in 1523. Through Sigismund III, elected King of Poland in 1587, a Polish branch ruled the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth until the abdication of John II Casimir in 1668. Rivalry between the two branches over the Swedish crown led to a long series of Polish–Swedish wars.
