Hsinbyumashin

1821–1900 · 19th century

Hsinbyumashin was a Burmese queen, one of the senior queens of King Mindon, who dominated the court at the end of his reign. With her daughter Supayalat and allied ministers she secured the succession of Thibaw in 1878, and the massacre of royal princes and princesses that followed in 1879 is attributed to her faction. Her influence ended with the British conquest of 1885.
