Supayalat

1859–1925 · 20th century

Supayalat was the last queen of Burma, the daughter of King Mindon and Queen Hsinbyumashin and the wife of King Thibaw, her half-brother. She dominated Thibaw's court and is held responsible, with her mother's faction, for the massacre of royal relatives in 1879. After the British conquest of 1885 she went into exile with Thibaw at Ratnagiri in India, returning to Rangoon after his death.
