Ida-Maras

18th century BCE · 18th century BCE · Also known as Idamaras

Ida-Maras was a district of small kingdoms in the upper Khabur basin of north-eastern Syria, known chiefly from the Mari archives of the 18th century BCE. Its rulers, including the kings of Ashnakkum, Kahat and Ilansura, formed shifting alliances and acknowledged the overlordship of Mari, Shubat-Enlil or other great powers. The letters give a detailed picture of tribal and urban politics in the region.
