Enlil
Enlil was the chief god of the Sumerian pantheon, lord of the wind and air, whose temple, the Ekur, stood at Nippur. Kings of Sumer and Babylonia sought his recognition at Nippur to legitimise their rule over the land, and in myth he decreed fates and sent the flood. His wife was Ninlil, and his authority later passed largely to Marduk in Babylonia.
