Lagash
Lagash was an ancient Sumerian city-state in southern Mesopotamia. Under rulers such as Gudea, it flourished in the period between the fall of the Akkadian Empire and the rise of the Third Dynasty of Ur. It was subsequently absorbed into the Neo-Sumerian Empire, and Gudea's statues and inscriptions are among the best-known works of Sumerian art.
