Sumer
Sumer was the region of southern Mesopotamia where one of the world's earliest civilisations developed, with city-states such as Ur, Uruk and Lagash. It was conquered by Sargon of Akkad. Accounts of the Neo-Sumerian Empire describe the revival of Sumerian power under the Third Dynasty of Ur.
