Ikkō-ikki
The Ikkō-ikki were leagues of farmers, local warriors, townspeople and priests belonging to the True Pure Land school of Buddhism in 15th- and 16th-century Japan. In 1488 they overthrew the governor of Kaga and ruled the province until 1580, and from the fortified Ishiyama Hongan-ji they resisted Oda Nobunaga for a decade before surrendering in 1580.
