Independent Commission of Experts
The Independent Commission of Experts, known as the Bergier Commission, was set up by the Swiss parliament in 1996 and chaired by the historian Jean-François Bergier to investigate Switzerland's role in the Second World War. Its reports, the last appearing in 2002, examined gold purchases from Nazi Germany, dormant accounts of Holocaust victims and the turning back of refugees, and prompted a wide reassessment of the period.
