Indian National Army

1942–1945 · 20th century · Also known as Azad Hind Fauj

The Indian National Army was a force raised with Japanese support, largely from Indian prisoners of war captured in Malaya and Singapore, to fight British rule in India. Revived under Subhas Chandra Bose in 1943, it served as the army of Azad Hind and fought in the Imphal and Kohima campaign of 1944. The trials of its officers in 1945–1946 stirred nationalist feeling across India.
