Inhambane
Inhambane is a port town on a sheltered bay on the coast of southern Mozambique. Vasco da Gama called there in 1498, and Portuguese traders were active in the 16th century, dealing in ivory and later in slaves. In the 19th century its hinterland was contested with the Gaza kingdom, and the town is now the capital of Inhambane Province.
