Intef II

r. c. 2112–2063 BCE · 21st century BCE · Also known as Wahankh Intef II

Intef II, also called Wahankh, was a king of the Eleventh Dynasty of Egypt who ruled from Thebes for about fifty years during the First Intermediate Period. He claimed the title of king of Upper and Lower Egypt, fought the rival Herakleopolitan kings for Thinis and Abydos, and extended Theban control northward. His long reign prepared the reunification of Egypt by Mentuhotep II. He was buried in a rock-cut saff tomb at el-Tarif.
